On this sunny but very cold Thursday afternoon, we were treated to the sight of Black Five No44871 returning north to Carnforth. The engine appeared a little behind time and she seemed in a hurry as the driver opened up under Spencer Bridge and the engine came striding past us. It wasn't long before she was off into the distance, throwing white steam over her shoulder on her way towards Rugby. A pleasant way to break up a Thursday afternoon at work!
